It be a nice throw blanket all winter, good for a quick warm up post ski, that kind of thing. The problem with military bags is that much of the features, like molle, don work well in civilian applications. Finding a tree water proof backpack that is suitable takes some time no more than 10 minutes and the rest takes about 3 minutes. So far, no issues on dozens of nights using this method. If I knew there would not be good enough tree coverage, I would definitely use a bear canister pacsafe backpack..
